Outfits in TV series

Have you ever watched an episode of a series and just felt that even if it was badly written or boring you just couldn’t help yourself not to admire the clothes? Yes, this happens a lot. There are some series that are rather keen on portraying certain kind of lifestyle, and without appropriate clothes they wouldn’t be as entertaining to watch.

You don’t have to look further than “Pretty little liars”, series that premiered couple of years back in the summer and was more successful than even the producers hoped. Four girls with different personalities, different lifestyles equal different clothes styles. I would say, it’s a dream for a stylist Oh, it was of course maybe not entirely believable that even though being stalked by elusive A, running for their lives, being broke they still maintained perfect looks. Nowadays, you can find a lot of pages featuring exact matches for the outfit from the series. For example, one can look at:

Another series famous for its ludicrously fashionable and expansive outfits is “Revenge”. Story setting in Hamptons among very, very rich people has its demands. And who doesn’t want to look at luxurious dresses from parties, black-tie events and such?

How do the things multiply

<And how does you dream closet look like?>

You know about this phenomenon where after you take out your things from a closed space, like a drawer or wardrobe they tend to occupy much more space then? You get kind of astonished how all this stuff fitted in there at all.

Ok, so it’s pretty obvious that I was doing some rearranging in my house. Actually we have had a little renovation going on, with the whole floor repainted. The problem is we had to empty all the wardrobes, shelves and so on. I guess everybody has a certain level of hoarding tendencies. You just can’t seem to throw out the things you don’t need or use because of sentiment or because of “it might come into use in later time”.

Anyway I decided that now it’s going to be different. (You know how there are some times when you just want to organise your stuff and organise everything at once?). Well there are plenty of articles that are supposed to help you tidy your space. Here are some of them:

About the pleasures of binge-watching

You guys, third season of House of Cards is coming! On February 27! Don’t you just love Netflix sometimes? When they did it last year with the whole 2. season release on Valentine’s Day, it was rather unprecedented. They didn’t make you wait week after week just for one mere hour of the story. We got 13 episodes of cunning Frank Underwood in the Washington setting at once. Well, the Netflix is doing it again!

Who doesn’t like to watch more than one episode of his or hers favourite series in one sitting? Apparently it’s a neurological thing, you immerse yourself more in the story and connect with the characters on a deeper level and your brain reacts in a certain way, the state that you want to maintain, hence you watch one more episode.

Of course one can’t forget about that it’s all connected with the desire to control our time. We can decide when and how much of something we want to watch. A lot of people prefer to wait out until there are couple of episodes or the whole season to enjoy it more in one day. Apparently, subconsciously we want to avoid feeling insecure, experiencing this particular psychological discomfort that the TV series are created to induce in us.

Anyways, here you can see the trailer for the third season of House of Cards:

Today is the day...

When I’m gonna give you a quick overview on the couple more films nominated for Oscars.

Firstly, let’s just repeat that I haven’t yet seen these, but I definitely plan to:)

One of them is “The Imitation Game”, a period film set in the WWII times, when the group of English mathematicians works in secret to crack the elusive code of the Enigma machine. Benedict Cumberbatch plays the character of Alan Turing, the brilliant leader of the group. He is definitely a strong contender for the Oscar for actor in a leading role.

Here you can find the trailer:

Another film that you cannot miss is “Whiplash”. 19-year-old Andrew played by Miles Teller wants to be the best jazz drummer possible. His talent is recognised by the most fearsome, intimidating teacher in the school, Terrence Fletcher (incredible J.K. Simmons). He pushes the young apprentice to fulfil his potential, by ways of fear and humiliation (no praise or encouragement).

Oscar nominations guys!(okay, we know the nominees for some time now) but... In only 18 days we will know the winners!

The highest possible award as an actor, producer, director or basically anyone involved in film industry is to receive an Oscar for your work. And because we are so involved in entertainment world (film, stars, celebrities), everybody is awaiting the night in February when you can finally find out who has won.

Obviously, part of the fun is making your predictions and rooting for the films you enjoyed. It kinda seems as if the film you liked receives the award, they are recognising your taste as well. You feel this particular satisfaction when you watch most of the films and you can make an informed bet which one you believe should win or when on social occasion you say that you have watched that particular picture and can recommend it or deem it not as amazing as others say.

This year I’m rather behind with my Oscar films-viewing schedule that I impose on myself. Basically, some of these pictures are just being released in the cinemas, and I don’t want to watch them on the screen of my laptop in a poor version from the Internet.

Anyways, I can and will list the ones that I feel eager to see and cheer for at the award ceremony. Of course “American Sniper”, a new Clint Eastwood film with Bradley Cooper as a leading man. The plot is about (surprise!) an American sniper dealing with high level of stress (probably a PTSD). Eastwood’s specific style of directing is well-liked by the Academy, so it definitely has a chance of grabbing the award.

Here you have a trailer:

Other film that I definitely want to see is “Theory of Everything” with Eddie Redmayne in the leading role. The semi-biographical picture tells the story about the life of Stephen Hawking, a brilliant astrophysicist who suffers from ALS. We cannot forget about Felicity Jones as his wife:) Both actors have been nominated for their performance and I would say they might get it.

Here you have the trailer:

To be continued tomorrow with few other titles that I will recommend/root for at the awards ceremony.
